課程概述



In this course, fundamental concepts of fluid mechanics will be introduced. Specific topics shall cover basic properties of fluids, description of fluids at rest and in motion, kinematics of fluid motion, flow analysis using control volumes and differential methods, and dimensional analysis and modeling. If time is available, pipe flow and external flow with boundary layers shall be introduced. Students can study with the aid of various resources such as fluid videos and online materials.
Contents:
1. Basic properties of fluids
2. Fluids at rest—pressure and its effects
3. Kinematics of fluid motion
4. Fluids in motion—the Bernoulli equation
5. Flow analysis using control volumes
6. Flow analysis using differential methods
7. Dimensional analysis, modeling, and similitude
8. Introduction to specific flows: pipe flow and external flow past bodies

3. 方程式的推導演算不是教學與學習的重點。
4. 以數學為工具,瞭解物理概念。

課程目標
To understand the fundamental concepts of fluid flows. Knowing the phenomenological descriptions and analytical skills, students will be able to resolve the basic problems of fluid dynamics. They can further apply the knowledge to relevant disciplines in science and technology.
